HPE health unit reports 73 high-risk COVID cases in region

Local health officials reported Tuesday 73 new high-risk cases of COVID-19.

No new deaths were recorded leaving the number of fatalities attributed to COVID -19 since the pandemic began at 113 in the region, according to Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.

There were 86 active high-risk cases recorded last week in the catchment area.

There were 12 people listed in hospital and three patients were listed in intensive care.

There is one current active outbreak in a high-risk setting.

Statistics show 81 per cent of local residents have had their primary series vaccination, the health unit said, while a further 24 per cent have been jabbed in the last six months.

In Canada, latest numbers as of March 20 show a total of 4.6 million cases have been recorded in the past week, up by 8,510 cases.

Nationally, there were 51,800 deaths overall linked to COVID -19 with 136 new deaths recorded.

There were 50,807 weekly tests reported across Canada with a 11.4 per cent positivity.

Globally, latest total cases of COVID-19 as of March stood at 676.6 million cases with 6.88 million deaths reported, according to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine Coronavirus Resource Centre.

There have been 13.3 billion vaccine doses administered around the world to date.
