Belleville flags lowered to honour fallen Edmonton police officers
Flags at City Hall, the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre and Belleville Police Service have been lowered in solidarity with Edmonton Police Service after two officers were killed in the line of duty.
Const. Brett Ryan and Const. Travis Jordan were killed while responding to a domestic dispute call on March 16. Cst.
Ryan was 30 years of age with more than five years of service and Cst. Jordan was 35 with more thann eight years of service.
“I am saddened by the senseless and tragic death of Const. Travis Jordan and Const. Brett Ryan,” said Belleville Police
Chief Mike Callaghan.
“We have experienced too many police officers across Canada being murdered in the line of duty. This is a stark reminder of importance to provide services for those afflicted with mental health challenges. The Belleville Police Service mourns with the Edmonton Police Service, our policing partners and all citizens across the country.”
The flags will be lowered until the morning of March 27, following the officers' funeral.
The city said, “our deepest sympathies are with the officers' friends, family, colleagues and all fellow officers during this time.”
