Pirates blank Rebels to complete sweep

The Picton Pirates blanked the Campbellford Rebels 2-0, last Tuesday to complete a four-game sweep in their Provincial Jr. C Hockey League opening round playoff series.

Zack Brooks opened the scoring for the Pirates 1:39 into the game when he scored from Landon McLellan and Ian Harrison. Harrison added an insurance marker at 7:56 of the first when he converted a Trot Davis pass.

The second and third periods went scoreless.

Brady Spry stopped all 35 Campbellford shots he faced to record his second shutout of the series. Keaton Lyons stopped 40 of 42 Picton shots in taking the loss.

The Pirates opened their bestof-seven second round series with the Amherstview Jets Wednesday in Amherstview, but results

weren't available at press time. Game 2 is slated for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Picton, with Game 3 back in Amherstview Sunday at 7:30 p.m., and Game 4 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Picton.

Meanwhile, in the other Tod Division quarter-final series, the Port Hope Panthers eliminated the Frankfiord Huskies in five games.

In Game 4, Tuesday in Frankford, the Panthers took a 3-1 stranglehold on the series with a 4-0 victory.

Josh Sainthill opened the scoring from Carter Clarke and Tyler McGarvey 4:36 into the first period. Christopher Brydges made it 2-0 from Isaac Langdon and Connor MacGregor on the power

play at 8:55 of the second period. Langdon then scored unassisted at 16:09 to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead entering the final stanza.

Drew Clapperton rounded out the scoring from Langdon and Oz Paziuk at 12:43 of the third period.

Sam Dingle stopped all 30 shots he faced to record the shutout, while Dean Spry stopped 25 of 29 shots in taking the loss.

In Game 5, Wednesday in Port Hope, the Panthers squeaked out a 2-1 victory to eliminate the Huskies.

MacGregor opened the scoring for Port Hope with 1:30 left in the first period when he was set up by Langdon and Brydges.

MacGregor made it 2-0 from

Clayton Farrow 7:19 into the second period.

Ben Smith got a goal back for Frankford 7:12 into the third period from Blake Ellis and Ryan Turney.

Dingle stopped 29 of 30 shots in recording the win in net, while Hayden Candler turned aside 24 of 26 shots in taking the loss.

Port Hope their second round series with the Napanee Raiders Tuesday in Napanee, but results weren't available at press time. Game 2 was Wednesday in Port Hope, but again results weren't available. Game 3 is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Napanee, with Game 4 back in Port Hope Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
